Mobile marketing revisited – 2013
You must have heard many stuff about being mobile friendly and there are many people out there who are now selling services to convert websites to be mobile friendly. That doesn’t stop there. Being mobile friendly isn’t just about your website being able to be viewed properly on an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy.
Mobile email marketing
Many businesses forget that while their websites are mobile friendly, they craft their email marketing materials for the 25″ LCD monitor on their PCs. That is a major flaw in the marketing plan, how many times have you received emails but was frustrated because the images were too large and the fonts just doesn’t line up properly making the entire email almost impossible to read.
Mobile Advertising
Creating ads on the PC are meant for viewing on the PC, ads on mobiles are taking an increases significance in many marketing plans. Mobile ads do not seem to quite comply with the PC versions of display ads. Take for example one of the common ad sizes for mobile is 120 x 20 pixels. Well, just how small is it? It’s this small..
Not a lot I can do with it if you ask me. Well think about it, many smart phones these days pack in a full HD screen (1920 x 1080 pixels) and the example above would definitely not get you any attention at all from the users on a HD screen as compared to someone using a slightly lower end phone with 800 x 480 pixels. To go beyond the discussion of screen sizes, think about where these ads will show up? If you haven’t guessed it, in-apps. App advertising is taking a huge hit these days. According to a forecast by Portio Research, the number of apps download for 2013 is expected to hit 82 Billion wordwide and the opportunities for in-app advertising is HUGE.
Technology
Technology is evolving and you should keep up with times, if you are still using Flash, you might be in for a good surprise. Flash is no longer supported by Android starting a few months back with their new JellyBean OS. It was never supported by iOS to begin with. The shocking thing is customers are still coming to me, asking for Flash interactive sites for their mobile marketing campaign!
So if you have not thought of moving your efforts towards mobile marketing, it’s time to start!
